There are many available resources for people to understand the mental health system and support their own or others mental health. See below for a selection of available resources.

Find and Access Mental Health Services

Accessing Mental Health Professionals
Talk to a doctor about your concerns and ask for an assessment or referral. Some general practitioners (GPs) have additional training and expertise in mental health.

Specialist mental health and intellectual disability services may also be available for referral by your GP, such as:
  • SMHIDS – Specialist Mental Health and Intellectual Disability Service (Online coming soon)
  • MIDAS – Mater Intellectual Disability and Autism Service MIDAS
  • CHAP – Comprehensive Health Assessment Program CHAP
Medicare
Medicare rebates are available for a range of mental health treatments, including up to 10 individual consultations and up to 10 group therapy sessions with a mental health professional. A referral is needed from a general practitioner, psychiatrist or paediatrician to be eligible. Ask for a Mental Health Care Plan.

National online and telehealth information service (Australian Government). Find health information, find a health service, or check your symptoms. A free online treatment program that helps you self-manage your recovery from depression. It focuses on practical things you can do to make things better and helps you to set goals. Ontrack.org.au

An innovative, interactive web program designed to prevent depression. It consists of 5 modules, an interactive game, anxiety and depression assessments, downloadable relaxation audio, a workbook and feedback assessment. moodgym.com.au

Kids Helpline

Men’s Line
